Why We Started Mama Honee: Building a Family Business With Purpose

When we started Mama Honee, we were not simply looking for a product to sell. We wanted to create something our family could build together, something that felt personal and meaningful, and something that could teach our children about responsibility, creativity, ownership, and entrepreneurship. At its core, Mama Honee is a family business, but even more than that, it is a business built with purpose.

We Wanted to Build Something of Our Own

There is something powerful about creating something as a family. For us, Mama Honee became an opportunity to build a business that reflected our values while also giving us something tangible to grow together. We wanted our children to see entrepreneurship up close, not just the exciting parts, but the planning, decision-making, preparation, problem-solving, mistakes, and wins that come with building something from the ground up.

Those lessons are difficult to teach from a book. Sometimes the best way to understand how a business works is to be part of one. Through Mama Honee, our children are able to see that ideas require effort, patience, consistency, and a willingness to keep learning. They are able to watch something move from a simple idea into a real business that continues to grow.

Creating Opportunities for the Next Generation

One of the biggest reasons behind Mama Honee was the desire to create opportunities for our family. We wanted to build something that could grow beyond a single event, product, or season and eventually become part of our family story. For us, success is not only about how many jars of honey we sell. It is also about what our children learn through the process and what they begin to believe is possible for themselves.

We want them to understand that they can create, build, lead, and dream for themselves. We want them to see that businesses do not magically appear fully formed. They begin with ideas, require work, evolve over time, and often involve figuring things out along the way. Sometimes the greatest opportunities begin with simply being willing to start.

Why Honey Felt Right

Honey felt like the perfect fit for what we wanted to create because it is simple, familiar, and connected to so many of the things we value. Honey brings to mind food, family, gathering, gifting, tradition, and warmth. It can be part of breakfast, dinner, dessert, a charcuterie board, a warm drink, or a thoughtful gift.

The more we learned about honey, the more interesting it became. Different varieties can have very different flavors, colors, and textures depending on where they come from and what flowers the bees visit. We loved the idea of building a brand around something that could naturally become part of everyday moments while also giving us opportunities to teach others more about honey along the way.

Learning Together

Building Mama Honee has already become a learning experience for all of us. There are so many things involved in running a small business that most people never see. Inventory has to be tracked, products have to be priced, labels have to be designed, events have to be prepared for, displays have to be created, and customers often have questions that make us think about our products in new ways.

Sometimes something sells faster than expected. Sometimes an idea does not work the way we thought it would. Sometimes we have to make changes and try again. Through all of it, we are learning about business, customers, honey, and even ourselves. That is part of what makes this journey so meaningful.

Building a Legacy One Jar at a Time

The word legacy can sound big, but legacy does not always begin with something huge. Sometimes it begins with a small table at a market, a handwritten idea, a box of products, a conversation at home, or a child helping set up a display. Sometimes it begins with one customer purchasing one jar and believing enough in your idea to support what you are building.

That is how we think about Mama Honee. We are building one step at a time, one market at a time, one lesson at a time, and one jar at a time. We do not know exactly what Mama Honee will look like years from now, but we do know what we want it to represent: family, love, opportunity, hard work, purpose, and the courage to build something meaningful together.

Rooted in Family, Made with Love

Our tagline, Rooted in Family, Made with Love, is more than something we place on our packaging. It represents the heart of the business. Mama Honee is rooted in our family story, in the desire to create opportunities, and in the lessons we hope our children carry with them long after they are grown.

Every jar, every event, every new idea, and every lesson becomes another small part of that story. We are not just building a brand. We are creating memories, experiences, and opportunities that we hope will have an impact far beyond the products themselves.

We Are Just Getting Started

Mama Honee is still growing, and we are still learning what works. We are still discovering new ideas and dreaming about what this business can become. There is something beautiful about building while you are still learning and being willing to start before everything is perfect.

We started Mama Honee because we wanted to build something together. We wanted to create opportunity, teach our children through experience, and build something our family could be proud of. Maybe one day, it will become something the next generation continues to build too.

For now, we will keep learning, keep growing, and keep adding a little sweetness along the way. Thank you for being part of our journey.

With love,
The Mama Honee Family

Rooted in Family, Made with Love.
